You know what?
Sometimes life throws curve balls at us, situations change, people come and go. The severity of it really doesn’t matter. It can be at the worst end of the scale of excruciating pain such as a death, it can feel as though your insides have been pulled out and you wonder how the hell you are going to find that silver light at the end of the tunnel or it could be anything that just upsets you full stop. I know, it’s hurtful, I have been there too. What got me through that vile, draining, unhappy world and still gets me through it is my friends and family. I don’t know what I would have done without them. The abundance of support and help being offered, regular SMS check-ins making sure I am ok, hours of their encouraging and soothing advice, every single bit of it helps.
These unfortunate situations can make you kinda well, lose yourself a little, you are too immersed in feeling pants that you just can’t see a way out of it, for me it was a break-up of a relationship. But you know sometimes people are like clouds, once they are gone it’s a beautiful day. I was given a great piece of advice recently which I am sharing with you: PUT YOURSELF FIRST.
This means focusing on just you and cutting out negativity. This includes thoughts swirling around in your head and removing any toxic people from your space. Then, start doing things which make you happy. When I was asked, “What are the things which make you happy?” I stared blankly, I had no clue! It was like I didn’t know anymore. The last time I listed things which made me happy was June 2016! Time to make a list (and if you have read any of my previous posts you will know I love a good list).
10 THINGS WHICH MAKE ME HAPPY
Over the years as I have embraced and grown with my Asian roots, so has my love of Chinese food. I am currently registering for courses on how to cook my own Dim Sum buffet (stay tuned). There’s something soothing about grabbing my chopsticks and eating Xiao Long Bao cross-legged on the sofa watching a movie, it’s my go-to comfort food.
2. WATCHING MOVIES
I am a movie buff, I will watch pretty much anything but I love a good true story. The way I see it, it’s a chance to learn a bit of history, right?
3. BEING IN SINGAPORE
The little red dot has become my home, a place where I feel safe. The weather of course is fantastic but I have a wonderful, happy carefree attitude when I am there. I can go for a late night run joining many other runners and cyclists and feel safe. Many friends remain which makes it such a comfortable place to return to and it’s a vibe which really does inspire you to live life to its fullest, at any opportunity.
4. HITTING 15K STEPS
Ok I am not ashamed to admit that I am slightly obsessed with my Fitbit, hitting my daily step target drives me and keeps me motivated. When it vibrates happily notifying me that I have hit my target a tiny smile appears and I’m dying to do a fist pump!
5. GETTING MY NAILS DONE
Taking care of yourself on the outside is a good indicator that you take care of yourself on the inside. Self love is important and how you treat yourself shows how you would like others to treat you.
6. HAVING A MASSAGE
Sometimes forgetting all of your worries for 60 minutes can do you the world of good and leave you feeling uber relaxed. What better feeling than to gain some inner peace and have a 7 star snooze afterwards.
7. MY BLOG
I am extremely proud of my blog and the fact that so many people want to read what is in my head really is awesome. Thanks to my readers I am inspired to create more material and continue making this a success. It has been and continues to be such a rewarding experience with many unexpected doors opening with fresh opportunities.
8. MY FIRST CUPPA IN THE MORNING
I actually love this. One of the first things I do in the morning is put the kettle on (you can take the girl out of the UK…). I actually can’t really function until I have that cuppa. There’s something about the first one that gives me a kick start and I’m off to tackle the world!
9. BRUNCH WITH THE GIRLS
Surrounding yourself with people who love and care for you, who encourage and support you is vital to a happy life. Catching up for brunch with the girls to download what’s going on in our lives, some of us needing advice and some of us receiving praise is a great way to recharge.
10. NEW EXPERIENCES
I am always on the look out for new bars, restaurants and events. Places I haven’t been to before. I only have one life, I want to maximise it as best I can and see as much of it as I can. Sometimes I blog about it and share the indulgence with you, sometimes I keep it for myself. Either way, it’s a new experience.
Do what makes your soul shine
All of us have things in our lives which make us smile, including our loved ones which of course goes without saying, but each one of us has individual things, which makes only that person feel good. It’s important to cultivate these because you know that no-one else can make you happy but you right? Your happiness is in no-one else’s hands but yours.
What are the things in your life which make you happy? Whatever they are, do them…
BE BOLD, BE BEAUTIFUL, BE YOU.
So hey you, yes you..I want to thank you for reading my post. Whether you’ve stuck around since the beginning of my journey or whether you’re new to my blog, thank you for reading and supporting. I genuinely appreciate it.
