It’s been raining for hours.
It’s times like this where you can wake up with that meh feeling, not so bright and cheery as normal. The weather really can have an impact on how people feel, just as the sun and warmth has a notable positive impact, the rain, wind and cold can most definitely allow those negative thought patterns to disperse.Well no thanks. I am a morning person and usually wake feeling pretty content. That’s just the way I am wired. Not everyone does I get that, but I don’t enjoy waking up feeling miserable, it sets the tone for the day and what’s the point plus do you really want your grumpy face to be the first thing your other half sees in a morning?
I woke this morning listening to the wind and rain and immediately threw the covers over my head, it made me feel cosy. My blogging schedule is heaving at the moment and I planned to be out and about but all I could think of was a hot chocolate, scented candles and a good movie! Luckily I am working from home at the moment so I had the option of juggling a few things around.
I was immediately grateful for that, I try to practice the attitude of gratitude every morning (sometimes I forget). I know it can be difficult when you’re in that mood, but when you can list the things which you really are grateful for, you would be hard pressed to not have the corners of your mouth turning upwards in joy. It’s all too easy when the weather is gloomy to allow any minor upset to turn in to a major meltdown but just thinking of a few things you are blessed with, really will help turn around your mood and your day.
The things I am grateful for change on a daily basis and I know that the weather today has made some people think ‘yuck, ewww’ but I think these are the days when it is more important to think of the things which you appreciate in life.
Here’s how to brighten up a rainy day!
- Start that hobby
- Grab a drink, look out the window and watch the rain soak others…because you’re inside!
- Read that book you have been meaning to get stuck into
- Have a Netflix binge
- Wear that new jumper sitting in the wardrobe teamed up with your favourite boots, grab that umbrella and head out for lunch
- Head to a coffee shop and do some work watching the world go by, it’s always cosier somehow when it’s raining outside
- Go for a run in the rain, there is something really refreshing about this!
See what I mean? It’s just a different mindset which helps make you feel chipper and then who cares if it’s raining?
I am not good at relaxing, I find it difficult as though I don’t quite know how to switch off. I may sit for 30 minutes or so and then I am up doing something, anything! Especially when the weather is lovely. Today however, I am grateful for a reason to almost force myself to slow down a little. I am always finding something because I have this burning feeling that I am wasting my life away just sitting around, so knowing I actually don’t have to run around today because I kinda have an excuse is fabulous!
