Blogging…Two Years Later

Happy Birthday to me!

It’s been two whole years since the launch of niccimcshane.com, I can’t believe it!

Whilst my blog was initially a channel to express my thoughts, have a voice and help add a little sparkle to people’s lives, it has become a journey of self-discovery. It has changed my life in so many ways. I am driven solely by one belief…

You only have one life, it is no dress rehearsal and you don’t get another go at this!

That is my motivation, to maximise my life and share my experiences, and for some reason, people seem to be pretty interested in what I am up to, whether it be cooking new recipes, visiting a new restaurant or just general self-development discussions. I have developed my own voice, become a part of the global community and developed a whole new level of confidence.

I look back at my first post with fond memories. Learning how to set up my own website and creating my first post was a mix of nerves and excitement. And now two years later I have published 204 posts, have 42k views and lucky enough to have readers from not just Singapore where I lived at the time, but from all over the world, #feelingprettypumped.

I won’t lie, it isn’t always sunshine and roses. Being a blogger requires dedication and commitment, not only in terms of time but the devotion to my awesome readers who take the time to read, share and comment on my work. In all honesty, there are highs and lows of being a blogger but it’s worth every second.

THE HIGHS
  • You establish your own brand.
  • It’s an opportunity to find your niche and have your own place in the blogosphere.
  • It’s your own channel to speak to the world – I mean how amazing is that!
  • The awesome people you connect with.
  • Exposure to attend events and opportunities to promote your work.
  • The amazing brands who want to work with you.
  • That satisfaction, pride and fantastic feeling when you know you have helped someone.
  • Positive and encouraging comments from people reading your work.
  • Learning new skills in developing websites.
  • Improved writing skills.
  • Being creative.
THE LOWS
  • It’s a demanding hobby and/or occupation.
  • It requires real dedication and time commitments.
  • You never really switch off – I’m always creating content through taking photos or jotting down ideas.
  • It’s easy to lose your blogging mojo if you’re not organised and don’t plan in advance.
  • It requires super organisational skills.

I shared in a previous post, the reasons why I love blogging which include confidence, discipline, helping others and having a documented life journal. It is now evolving into gratification and honour on being able to share thoughts and experiences on self-development, a topic which is close to my heart in my determination to maximise life.

So 204 posts later I am proud as punch to say I am actually part of people’s lives, my opinion counts. I even inspire myself so tonight I am raising a glass to all of my awesome readers for sticking with me, whether you are new to my journey or have been with me since the beginning, I really do appreciate it!

It would also be a blogger crime if I didn’t say a massive thank you to my mentor and now dear friend The Digital Conversationalist, Andrea, who introduced me to the blogosphere and the power of social media. She encouraged me to be, well, just me. To believe that I am awesome, be happy with who I am, know what I stand for and not to be afraid to have an opinion.

And in addition, I have to say a huge thank you to my family and friends who provide endless inspiration, support and encourage me to achieve my dreams.
