What’s the big deal about inspiration and what does it even mean to be inspired?
The Oxford Dictionary defines inspiration as ‘the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.’ Inspiration comes hand in hand with creativity when we become inspired we take action. Simples.
I’m not talking about a genius idea which means you jump up ready to change the world or innovation which leads you to pitch on Dragons Den. Although that may very well happen, there are everyday things in life which can cultivate the encouragement and incentive to catalyse positive change. It’s about being open to it and having a clear mind.
And when that happens, allow your mojo to do its thing and run with it. Take action.
Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working
Everything around us provides inspiration. From the clothes we wear, the books we read, the Insta feeds we scroll through and the people we spend time with. It would be a very dark place without it.
Mine comes in many forms and can alter mood depending but here are a few of the regulars.
I actually look forward to the morning work commute. There is a positive quote waiting for me at the train station every morning and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. I have had my first cuppa and I’ve woken up, ready to embrace the day. Just that one quote gives me a little spring in my step, injecting inspiration.
We all need to switch off at some point. We have busy lives and there are a million thoughts going around our heads throughout each day. Reading gives me that escapism, forgetting about day to day worries or stresses and allowing me to check-out for a bit. I find that time out relaxing and it grants me the opportunity to reset and see things in a different light when I close the book and crack on again.
My two main go-to’s are Instagram and Pinterest. Whilst some social media channels have had a bad rap for causing insecurities, it can also be an immense form of inspiration. From style and beauty trends, food plating to photography design and slow cooker recipes, they are at our fingertips and from there my ideas are hatched.
I mean how else would I have found out about cloud eggs?!
You’d be surprised at the things which can inspire you, without even realising it.
- Discovering new things, from restaurants to cities.
- Going for a walk. Even a short one.
- Calling a loved one. Even better, spending time with them.
- Taking time out, the break can help you reset and recharge to allow new ideas in.
- Giving yourself a break, we aren’t all inspired all of the time. Relax, it will come.
- An open workspace, it helps the creative juices flow. A cluttered space can cause anxiousness.
The list isn’t exhaustive and it can start as simply as your own space, does it stimulate ambition and desire?
Inspiration comes from within yourself.
One has to be positive.
When you’re positive, good things happen.
What are the things that inspire you and is it important to you as it is to me?
