10 Ways To Rock Your Day

I’m excited!

You know why? Well why not? Waking up to a sunlit bedroom stretching out in the warmth, grabbing my morning cuppa and turning on the TV to discover there is no breaking news of any more terrorist attacks in London today (thank god). I think quite frankly that is sufficient logic to feel delighted.

The way we think from the minute we wake really can determine how the rest of our day goes. But if you wake in a grump or you stub your toe getting out of bed, you really can change that mood, no honestly you can!

I’m not going to go on a positivity trip, although I really could (my positive pants are well and truly on right now), but I am going to give suggestions on how the power of your thinking can make your day totally awesome.

The minute you wake, think of three things you are grateful for, it literally takes a minute! It can be anything from the fact you have eyes to be able to see, an amazing partner sleeping next to you, a beautiful home or through that half-closed eye you can see that beautiful pair of shoes you bought last week! Ok maybe that’s just me.

There are many ways that you can do this, you don’t have to sit and listen to something for 20 mins if you don’t want to, just concentrating on your breathing helps bring yourself in to the present moment.

I’m not sure I believe in the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I am a foodie so every meal is vital! But I do think that having time to have breakfast gives you a spring in your step and allows you to get on with what the day has in store. A hungry growling tummy is far too distracting!

Ok I know I am being controversial here. So many articles tell you to ignore social media when you wake up. Part of my morning routine is updating myself on what’s going on. I am a blogger, I absorb information, I love reading. My daily fix makes me feel motivated and as some of my feed includes positivity tips, I am right up there with starting the day off right. I understand that some news can drag us down, or those stressful work emails (which I think is a definite no-no before starting your commute), but if you can compartmentalise and can crank up that optimism whilst connecting with the world then why not god dam well do it?

The reason I say this is it’s a reminder that you and only you, are in control of how your day goes!

No-one is in control of your happiness but you; therefore, you have the power to change anything about yourself or your life that you want to change

It’s contagious! When someone smiles at you don’t you automatically smile back? Randomly smile at people, I guarantee it will make you feel good.

I am currently reading Thrive by Arianna Huffington (a must read) which contains a method to help you pay attention to what you are doing. So, you choose a habit to focus on each day for a week, it could be as simple as brushing your teeth or having a shower, anything which helps you to concentrate on solely that. I have been doing this for a couple of weeks and it really does help dispel worries. It’s about focus and being in the present moment.

For one whole day, try not to think or say any negative thoughts. If you struggle for the whole day, just do half a day or even an hour! Just watch your life transform and your feelings change. When we are negative we attract more negative people, it’s the law of attraction. And I for one certainly don’t want pessimistic vibes around me. Gloomy outlooks drain our body and don’t make us much fun to be around.

Give yourself three compliments. Be kind to yourself and don’t forget that happiness starts from within.

Being unkind doesn’t achieve anything, it means inside you are hurting and then in turn want to inflict pain on others. Not good right? Be compassionate to yourself and to those around you, you never know it may just make someone’s day!

There you go, those are my 10 things which help me rock each day. I hope you find them useful and if you have any other suggestions to add please feel free to add them below!

So go ahead, be awesome today!

Great advice! I’m the same way with social media. It’s a pleasure to look at what everyone else is up to, not a punishment! xx.

Love this post! I agree with social media and with meditating. I don’t always remember, but when I do I feel far better. Xxxx
