Why do we wear makeup?
It dates back to ancient Egypt when Kohl was used to line the eyes to protect them from the sun and since then a humungous industry was born.
I wear makeup because it makes me feel good, more confident and I enjoy experimenting with different products and colours. Being a brunette with dark eyes I am naturally drawn to browny tones but with the increasingly popular greens, blues and bordeaux colours out there I am changing my look by the day.
Inner beauty is great, but a little mascara never hurt
So although I personally wear makeup for the feel good factor there is the growing popularity of the #nomakeupmovement. I am an advocate of this too as I believe that we should be doing things which make us feel good regardless. So if not wearing any makeup is your thing then here’s a massive high five to you!
I have had a radical brand change recently, giving my trusted pallets and glosses a break whilst I switch and slide into YSL heaven. I only went into the store for a replacement foundation and I left with a whole new range! But it is Autumn after all, a new season which requires a whole new look (that’s my excuse anyway).
My September favourites:
YSL TOUCHE ECLAT BLUR PRIMER £29.50
I have an infatuation with this product, a silky texture which melts in to your skin. It closes pores and gives a velvety soft base, an immediate confident boost. The best thing about it is that you only need a tiny amount and I am talking less than pea size.
YSL COUTURE EYE PRIMER £23.50
Did you know you are supposed to do your eye makeup before applying foundation? In a recent makeover this was the first lesson I learnt. Predominantly so that any glitter or powder droplets can be easily removed before applying foundation and powder. Once that is already on it can mess up your look when trying to remove it and you have to start all over again!
So back to the primer. This I am addicted to for two reasons. Firstly you need the tiniest of amounts and similar to the blur primer this little beauty is going to last for a long time (an investment I believe). Secondly, it really does help to set that eye. Upon application of your powder and liner it is set for hours! I get slightly frustrated at having to reapply eye makeup whilst I am out so this is a winner.
YSL COUTURE MONO EYESHADOW £23.50
I am currently obsessed with the colour green, it makes my eyes pop. This teamed up with various brown shades can result in a sexy, intense and smokey look.
Both blue and green are my current go-to colours, they suit my brunette features and well let’s be honest they are fun to play around with. These eyeliners are easy to apply with a creamy texture and intense finish. The blending tips make it much easier to create that smokey look.
YSL MASCARA VINYL COUTURE £25.50
Ok so of course if I had both blue and green eyeliners I just had to have the accompanying mascaras! I am not a fan of apparent coloured mascara, you know the one which you see a mile off? It reminds me of playing with my mum’s makeup as a kid so what I like about these mascaras is that upon application it still looks like dark black mascara and the light catches the different colours which in turn compliments the eye colour you are wearing.
BENEFIT BROW ZINGS £26.50
This little beauty is a perfect brow setter and whilst it’s a bit more fiddly than a pencil, it sets and stays! Definitely a winner.
Now I have to say that I think this is THE best foundation I have ever used. I don’t wear heavy makeup and am prone to vile pimples so this silky liquid is just perfect as it glides on the skin leaving a matte finish. It’s light, breathable and transparent. An ultimate favourite.
YSL SOUFFLE D’ECLAT £38.00
To complete the skin base, I use this gorgeous luminous lightweight powder. Using a brush I lightly sweep the powder across the skin to finish the look.
One of my favourites, 82 Reflex is the colour which results in a natural dewy and peachy complexion. I don’t go anywhere without it and as the winter months are fast approaching it’s a perfect subtle warm look.
218 Coral Remix is my favourite matte shade, it has an almost leathery silky texture which has a knack of providing a light moisturiser which lasts.
YSL GLOSS VOLUPTE £26.00
I love a nude natural lip, applying Rouge Pur Couture lipstick first then topping it up with the gloss adds a perfect finish and for someone who suffers with dry lips all the time this is a perfect moisturiser combination.
So there you have it, my September favourites. I think I may have spent a small fortune but “Happiest girls are the prettiest” ~Audrey Hepburn.
So hey you, yes you..I want to thank you for reading my post. Whether you’ve stuck around since the beginning of my journey or whether you’re new to my blog, thank you for reading and supporting. I genuinely appreciate it.
