She’s whiskey in a teacup!
Let me introduce you to Hazel from Mrs S. LDN. On a random day a couple of months ago we discovered each other’s blog, you know how it goes when this happens, you start liking their posts and then commenting and before we knew it we were in a local pub chatting about life and our blogging plans.
Hazel has introduced #WCW Series (Woman’s Crush Wednesday) with an awesome strapline, “Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.” Love it. This is when she kindly asked if would I like to do one of these posts, from her list of iconic women there was only one I could choose…Coco Chanel. I was privileged to have been asked to guest post, it’s actually the first one I have done. I was excited and nervous at the same time because in effect when you ask someone to do a guest post what you are doing is putting your blog in someone else’s hands, it’s your reputation at stake let’s face it.
But first, what is Guest Blogging?
In its basic form, it’s where you write a post to appear on another person’s blog.
I can talk about Coco Chanel until the cows come home. Where the hell does until the cows come home phrase come from?! Off to speak to Google. It refers back to when cattle were let out to pasture and were only expected to return until the next morning, basically a long time! You’re welcome.
I digress. So yes I can discuss Coco but on someone else’s blog? Yikes. I wanted to ensure the content met the requirements, understand Hazel’s audience and remember the main focus which was Women’s Crush. I remember submitting the blog via email and it was like waiting for the results of an exam! Would she hate it? Would I feel embarrassed if it needed changing? The relief when she messaged to reassure me it was my post, I was the guest and she was more than happy with it sent me skipping. I had done it! I will certainly be doing more guest posts and offering opportunities for other bloggers to guest post on niccimcshane.com.
So why should we guest blog?
- You establish relationships with other bloggers through a new audience.
- It’s an opportunity to enhance your online credibility.
- You have an expanded reach, the blog you are writing for may have different readers who are exposed to your work.
- The potential to increase blog traffic on both sides through existing and new readers.
- The opportunity to highlight other people’s blogs, it’s a great way of sharing the love, helping new or existing bloggers. It’s a tough world out there in the blogosphere so every little helps, it’s all about the #givingeconomy.
My guest post went live on Mrs S. LDN this week, you can check it out here.
Thanks for having me, Hazel!
Do you have any experiences with guest blogging? I would love to hear about them!
So hey you, yes you…I want to thank you for reading my post. Whether you’ve stuck around since the beginning of my journey or whether you’re new to my blog, thank you for reading and supporting. I genuinely appreciate it.
