6 Ways To Be The Best Version Of Yourself

Mindfulness is trending, alongside positivity and tips on how to be happier but the bottom line here is self-care, inner peace and being true to yourself.

2018 seems to be the year to work towards being the very best version of ourselves.

In my quest to do this my weight loss journey has supported me with a healthier intake of fruit and vegetables improving my skin, administered increased energy and let’s face it, losing excess weight always nurses that confidence.

But this is just one part of it, we need to align our outer appearance with our inner peace. It’s paramount.

They say that it takes 21 days to form a habit, I think this varies from person to person but undertaking the same action repeatedly, naturally then becomes a habit. I attended a course a few years ago and one of the pieces of homework was to list out all the things I wanted to achieve, just small things to change and then there were 21 boxes to tick daily, providing confirmation I had done them. What it proved was that after a couple of weeks I was doing these things without realising and no longer needed a box to tick. Adjusting to changes and new behaviours can make a massive difference if you want them to.

We all want to make changes somehow at some point in our lives, becoming the best version of ourselves means moving away from our current place and raising that bar, here are some ideas how:

ME TIME

I am a huge advocate of this. No matter who we are or what we are doing we all need a bit of space to ourselves. Whether it be to read a book, sleep, a hobby or just generally something you enjoy doing, having that time to reset that button results in a less stressed, more mindful attitude.

CELEBRATE SMALL WINS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Some of you may know that on a daily basis I note at least three things in my phone which I am grateful for, even on the days when I am feeling crabby (but that’s the best time to do it as it changes your perspective and improves your mood!). What this list is also valuable for, is looking back at your past achievements and celebrating them. Revisiting our successes, no matter how big or small is a satisfying way of reminding us who we are, what we want out of life and how we get there.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THERE WAS NO ISSUE ON SKILLS OR MONEY?

I think this is a great question and one which life coach Tony Robbins introduces you to in his Breakthrough app (I highly recommend this if you haven’t tried it. If you want direct access to some of his powerful tactics on improving your life then this is the app for you!). What if you could remove all your fears and there was absolutely no issue with skills or money, what would you do in life? Pretty compelling question right? It’s a dynamic way of self-realisation on the things you want to do and helps you on the path to getting there. Don’t forget, you only have one life, this is no dress rehearsal, you don’t get another shot at this!

CHOOSE YOUR CIRCLE WISELY

They say you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with. That’s one quote which has stuck with me as I have noticed the difference in how I feel when I spend time with encouraging, positive people. I feel awesome as opposed to those who seem to enjoy dragging people down, belittling them and unable to celebrate successes. Surrounding yourself with good people will help you realise your worth and encourage you on your road to victory.

YOU KNOW HOW TO SAY NO

People pleasing is something I think most of us are really good at. It’s one thing to do something for someone because we want to and because it helps them in some way but what if we are doing things just for the other person all the time and we don’t actually want to or it goes against our values and beliefs. Sometimes people are even bullied into undertaking certain actions to please the recipient but this will only begin to chip away at your ethics, character and self-respect. Don’t be afraid to say no of things that don’t really add any value to you. One of my dear friends once said to me, “Darling why would you do anything if it makes you feel anything other than fabulous?” It’s a great piece of advice which has helped me fulfil a more accomplished life. Try it, it works wonders!

YOU FORGIVE YOURSELF

This is something I am still trying to perfect myself whilst I realise it is also a piece of advice I regularly give to others (I know I know, don’t preach and take my own advice right?!). I tell my friends not to give themselves a hard time, they feel the way they do for a reason and that is important. It’s ok to feel what we feel, allowing ourselves to digest things, pick ourselves up in our own time and move forward is a necessary process. Don’t beat yourself up! The most significant factor in being the best version of yourself is that this should only be your vision and not the one of somebody else. They have their own life to live, that is their one life, they also don’t get another shot at this. Make your life special and make it yours.
