Things I Learned From Carrie Bradshaw

Hi! I’m not here right now, but my shoes are, so leave them a message
~Carrie Bradshaw

Hands up if you have been glued to the lives of four beautiful New Yorkers, found yourself immersed in their relationships and careers so much that you consider yourself to be part of their girl group. Yep completely guilty on all counts.

Sex And The City taught me a lot, beginning with the realisation that some of my own personal experiences have been completely normal. That “Why is this happening to me?” question started fading into the distance.

Like most movies or TV dramas you find yourself aligning with one of the characters, one which you feel most akin to. In this case, mine was Carrie Bradshaw, a penchant for expensive designer shoes and fashionable items may have had something to do with it. But not only that, now that I am a lifestyle blogger I find myself sitting in front of the laptop in a similar vein, writing about life.

So the hundreds of hours spent catching up on episodes of the girl’s lives wasn’t wasted. Turning to it on occasion for that feel good factor or to catch a glimpse of the gold glitter Louboutin pumps was just the start of some lifelong learnings.

I like my money where I can see it – hanging in my closet
~Carrie Bradshaw

I remember the days where I prayed to have the things I have now. The possessions I have worked so hard to own. And not a day goes by where I am not grateful for any of them. I am renowned for listing at least three things I am grateful for every morning, which ends up like an Ikea list by the time I am finished but having an attitude of gratitude is important for me. It’s a way of bringing more into your life. And it isn’t just about possessions, it could be just being grateful for having the eyes to read this post.

They say nothing lasts forever, dreams change, trends come and go but friendship never goes out of style

Friends. The role they have in our lives is indescribable. Considering we don’t share a drop of blood with them, they play an important role in our lives. They are always there, they boost your confidence, listen, provide guidance, a shoulder to cry on and are not afraid to challenge you. And all because they love you.

The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous
~Carrie Bradshaw

Over the past few years, I have learned the importance of self-love. It took some practice and still does sometimes but as Diane Von Furstenberg famously said, “The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself, so you might as well enjoy the company.” My own personal passion for self-development led to the launch of my blog, it’s not only my business but it is my absolute pride and joy. Sharing thoughts and ideas with others on various methods of self-improvement whether it be how to have more self-respect, ways to feel more confident in standing up for yourself or why it’s important to treat yourself every day are just some of the actions we can take to fall in love with ourselves again and live our best life.

I’m not afraid of heights. Have you seen my shoes?
~Carrie Bradshaw

My love for those beautiful sculptured accessories from pumps to flats, platforms, wedges, peep-toes and strappy, has cemented over the years. So much so, one of my nicknames is Nicci Nice Shoes. Impressed much. There’s something about slipping on a beautiful shoe which adds confidence, glamour, a leg lengthener in my case and in all honesty a little giggle of excitement. Accessories are just as important nowadays as the main outfit. The watch, shoes or jewellery all add finishing touches to the complete look enabling anyone to head out the door with a kick-ass attitude.

My shoe collection quite frankly is enormous I can’t lie and is only going to grow. I think Carrie would understand.

I wasn’t really a big fan of Sex In The City, but I did love the first movie and Samantha and Charlotte were my girls. Cynthia Nixon, the one who played Miranda Hobbs, is running for governor of New York against current governor , Andrew Cuomo . I couldn’t really relate to the four ladies of SITC, because NO ONE that I know of in New York really lives that life contrary to what’s on the show. The only two characters that I found to be real New Yorkers or close to it on that show were Charlotte’s second husband, her lawyer (I forgot his characters name)and Steve, Miranda’s baby daddy.

How interesting! I knew Cynthia Nixon was running for governor which I think is fab. Of course, people don’t live the way TV series portray but I loved it! Samantha and Charlotte were fab, played such great roles so no wonder they were your girls 🙂 x
